Amy’s Bread Newest Concept Store “The Pantry”

Yesterday, I went to the opening/previewing of Amy’s Bread newest concept store, “The Pantry”. Amy’s Bread is the brain child of its owner Amy Scherber (not to be confused with the comedian Amy Schumer) and has been serving NYC for the past 23 years with three store fronts.

The bakery has already become a staple of NYC locals with its delicious breads & cakes (don’t believe me just ask Yelp). So it is only right that Amy opened up a store front that holds her favorite items to pair with the breads! The Pantry, is a concept store that features local products that has been handpicked by Amy & her team. Most items steam from the North-East area, but some are from as far as the South. Ranging from jams to butters to maple syrup. She also has assorted meats, cheese, pastas and olive oil. All high quality with local ingredients (think fresh). Basically, anything that you would eat bread with, I am sure you can find it here! Some of the items I had and loved or saw and seemed interesting were:

  • Beth Farm Kitchen (out of Hudson Valley, NY) – makers of delicious jam, marmalade, pickles, salsas (score) and sauces.
  • Crown Maple (out of Duchess County, NY) – I think the name says it all! Makers of MAPLE SYRUP from red maple trees!!!
  • Georgia Olive Farms (out of Lakeland, Georgia) – Award winning Extra Virgin Olive Oil. I tasted and I must say it was really good. Well paired on all of the breads I sampled.
  • Empire Mayonnaise Company (out of Brooklyn, NY) – Can you say sriracha mayo!!! Other flavors include white truffle, black garlic, & red chili. But sriracha should say a lot!
  • Morris Kitchens (out of Brooklyn, NY) – Provides high end cocktail mixers & syrups. Who couldn’t use cane sugar based, all natural, vegan, and gluten free mixers?? Sounds like the perfect way to make the perfect drink while on a diet.
  • Sfoglini (out of Brooklyn, NY) – Pasta is made in small batches, using the finest organic flours from America and traditional brass dies. I love pasta, so why not!
  • Vermont Peanut Butter (out of Morrisville, VT)Maple walnut peanut butter, almond butter, cinnamon raisin peanut butter; Do I need to say more?

The Pantry opens today in Hell’s Kitchen (or as I like to call it ‘Foodie’s Heaven’) next door to the Amy’s Bread storefront (672 9th Ave New York, NY 10036). Not sure of the price point, but if you are into high quality pairings, then this is your place! If you stop by, telling what you had and let me know if you recommend it!
