Love & Politics

If you didn’t know,  yesterday was ‘National HIV Testing Day’ and many organizations had events to celebrate this important day.  I was able to attend the ‘Love & Politics’ ceremony which honored council-members and TV/radio personalities who have helped with the fight against HIV/AIDS.  This upscale event was held at the Parlor in SoHo and was packed with professional people and helped spread the word of a disease that has killed and affected millions. With music by DJ Jon Quick and some prestigious speakers, this was a GREAT event.

The event was hosted by a slue of organizations: Young Women of Color HIV/AIDS Coalition (YWCHAC), Young Professionals United for Change and National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS, Inc. (NBLCA), National Action Network (NAN), Being Latino, Manhattan Community Board 10, Human Intonation, New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and Veaux Productions.

The event honored NYC Councilwoman Inez Dickens, NYC Councilwoman Letitia James, Television Personality and HIV/AIDS Activist Melyssa Ford and Reggie Nance and  former Director of Incite at Emmis Communications.  Special guests included Salt of rap legend duo Salt & Pepa.  All of the award recipients spoke very well and you could hear the passion in their voices about this topic.  The event had on site testing, in honor of the day.

Over all I am glad to have been in a room with such inspirational people.  Please make sure you get tested, remember KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!  Until the next event xoxo
