Private Screening of Push Girls

So if you live in NYC you have probably seen all of those advertisement for the Sundance Channel newest reality show “Push Girls“!  If you are like me then you probably thought it was just some show about girls doing sports in wheel chairs or something to that nature (I know I am not the only one who thought that)!  Well I had the pleasure of attending a screening and a meet-an-greet with the ladies of the show.

So I was wrong and the show is not at all about girls in wheel chairs playing sports, well I guess they might have a scene or two like that, so I am not all the way wrong, LOL.  The show actually follows four women, Angela Rockwood, Tiphany Adams, Mia Schaikewitz and Auti Angel, who are all best friends living in Los Angeles (woot woot). It explores their struggles as women and friends; the different pressures life brings to middle age women.  Angela is an ex model who recently separated from her Hollywood actor husband and is now trying to make ends meet on her own.  Auti is a professional dancer who is married and trying to decided if she ready for a child.  Tiphany is the young free and wild one, looking for love in every corner.  Last their is Mia, who has a boyfriend, but is not sure she is ready for the committed life just yet.  To the viewers the women biggest set back is that they are all paralyzed from the waist down (except Angela who is paralyzed from the neck down), which you learn isn’t their biggest problem at all.

This show explores a world that we have yet to explore.  I mean of course we see the sad documentaries and we all think how that could be us and how we should try and be safer.  But this show, shows women who have overcome an obstacle that most would not know how to overcome and move on with their daily lives.  Yes at the begin, when they explain how each lady has gotten paralyzed it is sad, but by the end of the show you really forget they are in wheel chairs.  Each character has a trait that someone can relate too and you will really be drawn to these characters.  It is obvious they are very strong women who overcame  some pretty strong adversity, but at the end of the day, they are just people with everyday problems.

The show looks really good and I think the Sundance Channel has a winner on its hand.  It premieres June 4th at 10pm est.  Please make sure to check it out, I promise you will not regret it!

Until next event xoxo…
