Yesterday, I went to an event  called “Behind The Lens” Film Networking Event with special guest Noel Calloway hosted  by Colorbars Network. The event was held at the Polar Lounge inside the Gramercy Hotel; this was the place to be.

Around 75-100 professionals gathered at this dim-lit lounge to mingle and network.  The atmosphere of the place was very soothing, which was great because the weather outside was gloomy (you know the, “I want it to rain but don’t know why” type of days). The crowd was mostly business professional; most of which were in the film and TV industry.

The guest, Noel, directed and wrote the feature film “Live Love Soul”, which opened up in select cities last week.  I have never heard of the film, which stars Chad Coleman (of The Wire) and Tami Roman (yes the loud one from Basketball Wives on VH1), but the film seems very interesting.  It is about a teenage boy whose mother passes away and is forced to live with his estranged father.

Noel spoke about his struggles in the industry and the long process it took to get his film made.  He was very uplifting and,  motivated the audience to never give up no matter what adversity comes your way (a little motivational pep talk never hurt anyone’s evening, right?). One thing he said that stuck out to me was “believe you are a special individual and what you do is special, don’t believe everyone around you, because not everyone will believe your special” (those weren’t his exact words, but you get the drift lol).

Overall, it was a great and inspiring event, even for someone like me who really has no desire to be in the film industry.  I suggest if you live in the tri-state area to join Colorbars network, because they truly do have enjoyable events!
