Friday Night Viben

So after work on Friday, I had a very busy/fun afternoon!  Lets just start off by saying how hectic this week was!  I have been ripping and running since I got back from DC on Sunday, as you can see I am just posting about my Friday night on Sunday morning!  But never-the-less Friday was a great night!

It started off right after work when I meet up with friends to do happy hour.  We decided to stay in Midtown (my 9-5 is in midtown) and go to a restaurant called The Volstead.  Now if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t have never thought twice about going inside this place.  When you walk past it, it is in the cut, and when you walk in, you instantly see stairs.  But once you get down the stairs, it is really a hidden gem.  They have a live DJ, full bar, and very warm atmosphere.  This is such a great gloomy day place, since it is underground you are not reminded of how ugly it is outside.  We had appetizers and drinks, the appetizers were tapas style, so don’t go in there if your starving and think you will be full off appetizers.  They have $5 Pink Lemonade Vodka, which was the perfect drink! Over all it is great place for catching up with friends and having good laughs or even having a cute little date!

I had to head out early because a friend of mine invited me to this Poetry event, in Harlem.  So I headed uptown to hear some spoken word.  I was excited because I always thought of New York as an artsy poetic city and I have yet to go to a poetry reading in NYC.  I was kind of hoping this would be my “Love Jones” moment.  Well it wasn’t and the event really didn’t live up to my expectations.  Held at De Javu Book Lounge, it was a very quaint space.  I think the store was also a sex shop, because they had more sex stuff then books, but hey sex sales right *side-eye*  The poetry was okay, I was late and since it was such an intimate setting, I was noticeably late; awkward.  I was kind of upset since I had to pay $10 an I was only there for an hour, and then they charged for drinks!  I am all for making a profit, but we are in a book store, that is just like charging for drinks at house party, negative!  Maybe I just invest in a personal flask!  After the poetry was over, some poets were good, some where okay, I had to hoop on the train and head back to my borough, BK.

I headed to The Lox in Clinton Hill, for a fellow “From LA to NYC” friend of mine Micha Brown going away party.  She was leaving NYC, to head back to LA 😦 … She is a well accomplished hair stylist and her craft called her back home!  I had fun partying the night away and giving her a good well off.  Drinks were cheap, good, and strong, so you know I had a blast!.. Sad to see my girl go, but glad she is advancing in here already blooming career!  See you when you visit or when I visit Miss Micha!

Over all, Friday night was a great night.  Lots of traveling, but well worth it!
